2017 HealthTECH Startup Competition Recap

Another year, another great HealthTECH Event!

HealthTECH 2017 Startup CompetitionThanks to all that helped us celebrate HealthTECH’s fifth anniversary!

Sponsored by Insight Product Development, MATTER, and IBIO – PROPEL, this annual event once again brought together a great mix of key healthcare industry and community stakeholders.

And while the goals of the competition have not changed

  • Improve lives by bringing innovative health solutions to patients
  • Encourage entrepreneurship in the healthcare industry
  • Grow the medical innovation ecosystem in the Midwest
  • Connect corporations with early-stage companies

it’s reach and diversity within healthcare innovation have.

As the health tech ecosystem continues to grow in the Midwest, support from local medical and pharma companies has lead to increased activity for new technology solutions. Insight has seen the trend in interest and technology investigation grow from year to year in the startup space. This was made evident with this year’s increase in applications from the midwest and beyond,  as well as an uptick in mobile health and connected device focused startups.

Our judges did a great job of selecting the 10 finalists from such a large, diverse, and impressive pool of applicants. Speaking of finalists…

Congratulations to our 2017 HealthTECH Startup Competition Winners!

1st place:


Innovelity – BLITAB® is the first ever Braille tablet with an innovative actuating technology to create tactile text and graphics. The “iPad” for the blind.

2nd place:


NovaScan – NovaScan has developed and is commercializing a platform for real-time, highly accurate point of care cancer detection without expensive capital equipment.

3rd place:


Twiage – Twiage is a SaaS solution with a freemium business model. EMS uses Twiage for free to send patient data, while hospitals pay subscription fees to receive the data.
