The pharmaceutical industry has experienced a user-centered revolution in recent years. Regulatory expectations have raised awareness around usability; many pharmaceutical companies have scrambled to keep up.Some have realized that accounting for usability yields strategic benefits beyond regulatory compliance, even if they’re not sure exactly how to do it.
Insight has teamed with over a half dozen of the leading pharmaceutical companies in the world to infuse their development process with best in class human factors and usability practices. We do this by leveraging a broad and deep knowledge of human factors principles and user-centered methodologies, all couched in a firm understanding of the rigor required by HE75 Section 5 and ISO standards for performing and documenting this work.
Our experience spans a gamut of therapies including those for respiratory, diabetes, and autoimmune diseases. It also includes work across a number of delivery platforms and routes of administration, such as inhalation delivery devices, auto injectors, patch pumps, and diagnostic peripherals. Our approach to usability testing is comprehensive and inclusive of device, training materials, packaging, and labeling. Our findings become actionable because we leverage our expertise in user centered design and engineering to articulate detailed recommendations for design modifications that mitigate the chance of use error and harm to patients. In the process, we help pharmaceutical companies realize delivery platforms that users love because they are easier and safer to use – and that’s a formula for market success.
