Doug is the sr. director of the Chicago office of the Insight innovation center. For more than 30 years Doug has leveraged his strong background in design and business to drive the company’s growth through his management of operations, infrastructure, and Insight’s cast of multi-discipline senior management team members. In his executive management role, Doug has been central to Insight’s longevity and success in a historically tumultuous and highly competitive market, and the company being named not once – but three times by Inc. Magazine as one of the 100 fastest growing U.S. businesses. Doug holds a BFA in industrial design from Purdue University and an MBA in marketing and strategic planning from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Craig Scherer
Craig Scherer

Director, Medical Account Management

Craig is responsible for all Medical business development and account management at Insight. Craig plays an active role in client relationships, working with companies ranging from early-stage tech organizations to the world’s largest healthcare OEMs. He is also a director of Insight Accelerator Labs, a med device accelerator helping med tech startups deliver transformative technologies to healthcare. Craig is contributor to Insight’s medical and pharma thought leadership activities as a presenter and regular contributor to media on topics ranging from the role of user-centered design in innovation to technology and development best practices. Craig holds a BFA in industrial design from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an MBA from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Steve McPhilliamy

Director, Nemera Innovation Labs

Steve’s focus is on scouting and vetting emerging technologies and engaging with early-stage med tech companies with the goal of enabling the next breakthrough devices at Nemera. With more than 25 years of product development experience, Steve established the first accelerator program (Insight Accelerator Labs) in the Midwest to advance meaningful technology toward commercialization, grow the innovation ecosystem, and improve lives. Steve runs the annual Nemera Startup Competition (formally known as HealthTech) Now in its 8th year. Steve now manages this as a global event taking the search for the next big thing to a worldwide scale. He holds a baccalaureate in industrial design from the University of Kansas.

Mark Tunkel

Global Category Lead – Services

Mark Tunkel is services category lead within Nemera as a whole. With more than 20 years of global business development experience and a deep understanding of the marketplace challenges and trends impacting the pharmaceutical, medical device, consumer, and commercial industries, Mark has advised many of the world’s leading companies on their product development and innovation strategies with an emphasis on driving realization and the most favorable business outcomes. He is a frequent contributor to leading industry media, and his insights have been drawn on for topics ranging from the impact on care delivery models and drug delivery devices resulting from the convergence of medical, consumer, and pharma industries. Mark holds a BA in Political Science from Indiana University.

Carolyn Rose
Carolyn Rose

Leader, Research and Strategy

Carolyn leads the team of design researchers at Insight Innovation Center. Over the course of 20 years, she has consulted with hundreds of clients in their product development pursuits, generating meaningful research insights and defining actionable market opportunities. Her immersive, process-oriented approach aims to better understand the behaviors, expectations, and motivations of end-users, as well as the environments, attitudes, and trends that shape them. With extensive experience in generative and evaluative methodologies, she crafts research to efficiently and effectively meet the needs of Insight’s clients. Carolyn earned BAs in both Industrial Design and Spanish Linguistics and Literature from Syracuse University, and holds a Masters of Design Methods from IIT’s Institute of Design.

Dr Michael Lau
Michael Lau, PhD

Leader, Human Factors

Michael is a dedicated advocate of the user in product design and development. At Insight, he employs a wide variety of human factors research and analysis methods primarily to the healthcare domain. This approach is rooted in sound experimental design and augmented by nuanced qualitative observation. Leading Insight’s human factors team, he provides designers and engineers with key findings garnered from rigorous evaluations so that sound design decisions that satisfy both user needs and product requirements can be made early in development. Michael is Insight’s representative to the AAMI Human Factors Engineering standards committee, which authors HE 75 and has inputs into other national and international human factors standards. He is BS from the University of Waterloo Ergonomics program, MS and PhD in Industrial & Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan Center for Ergonomics.

Dan Greene

Leader, Engineering

Dan is an experienced engineer with 25 years of product development to his credit. Dan leads Insight’s team of engineers who collectively have completed hundreds of medical device and drug delivery projects. He excels at design optimization and has managed the development of countless devices that have successfully been scaled across multiple countries from low to high volume production. Dan ensures that his team effectively translates user needs and ethnographic research into actionable parameters to drive engineering designs. He manages complex technical development programs at Insight involving multiple disciplines and also manages Insight’s ISO 13485 certified quality system. Dan holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University.

Alisa, a talented and experienced designer herself, leads Insight’s team of industrial designers and UXUI designers to create exceptional user experiences across both physical and digital products. She ensures that her team works seamlessly with design research, human factors, and engineering to deliver the best, most appropriate, and innovative design solutions. Under her direction, Insight’s design team has earned multiple design awards, reflecting their excellence at transforming complex interactions into successful user experiences. Alisa’s team works with the latest creative and technical tools and is up to date on industry trends. Alisa holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Notre Dame
