Insight Gives Northwestern University Students Foundation for Innovation Success
Company Hosts NUvention Program Students at Chicago Facility

Approximately 60 Northwestern University students glean innovation best practices at Insight
The evening of October 29th, Northwestern University tapped Insight’s decades-long heritage in successful medical device development to give its graduate students real world context for what it takes to successfully innovate in the complex and highly regulated medical space. As part of a two-hour on-site class, Insight Director of Engineering Sean Corrigan, and Partner and Director of Business Development Mark Tunkel gave master’s program students from the University’s Kellogg school of business, McCormick School of Engineering, medical and law schools an introductory overview of Insight’s approach to aligning business needs with user needs, and developing medical devices from concept feasibility through technology viability. Insight’s very own Charlotte Lux has been published in Core77’s recently released book, “Designing Here/Now - A global selection of objects, concepts and spaces for the future.” Her featured strategy and research project that appears in the book - originally undertaken as part of her graduate program thesis, was hand selected for publication by an expert jury of deans, professors, fellows and business leaders.
The Insight team outperformed nearly 4,800 competitive entries from 63 countries to win what is arguably today’s largest and most prestigious international award for design concepts at a professional level. The team’s Near&Dear concept, a wearable technology designed to preserve the independence and autonomy of caregivers and patients alike, was awarded the Red Dot “Best of the Best” Design Concept distinction. The team responsible for driving the design of this winning concept included Insight Senior Manager of Industrial Design Tony Belton, Insight Industrial Designers Edward Cox and Alisa Rantanen, and Insight Senior Interaction Designer Miguel Martinez, under the direction and guidance of Insight’s Director of Design, Steve McPhilliamy.

Alisa Rantanen, Designer at Insight, was recently named the IDSA Midwest District Conference Midwest Merit Award winner.
Insight Product Development has won the Which Medical Device 2012 Which Medical Device of the Year Award in Interventional Radiology. Insight was a primary product development partner to MEDRAD for work on the company’s Angiojet® Ultra Thrombectomy System.
